Cold and Colds

People can say two things about January weather in Missouri with certainty: 1) it will be cold, and 2) if you don’t like it, just wait because it will change.  That’s definitely what we’ve experienced this month.  It has been near zero one week, and then quite nice and spring-like the next.  In fact on one day, it dropped from 69 degrees to 39 degrees in an hour!

All of this fluctuation in temperature has probably been the main culprit behind everyone being sick.  St. Louis hospitals are reporting that they have seen more flu cases lately than all of last year.  My family has seen our share of colds and such, too.  My couch has had a groaning person on it at one time or another about half of the month.

Needless to say, all this sickness has really taken a toll on attendance this month.  One Sunday we experienced an all-time low of 5 people, and we have had to cancel several Bible Studies because of sickness.

Even though the attendance has been low, we still have had good studies and people have learned more about God and His expectations this month.  It just goes to show us that we can still have quality even if we don’t have the quantity.

Christmas in January?

Last month, we were supposed to participate with Brookside MBC in a Christmas cantata but it was canceled because of the weather.  It was re-scheduled for January.  Unfortunately, we did not have good attendance.  Even I wasn’t able to attend.  But Quentin and Shannon went and participated.  Quentin had a solo, and I’m proud of him wanting to use his talents for the Lord.

Out-of-Town Visit

In the middle of the month, my family took advantage of a 3-day weekend to visit our good friends John and Cheryl Tarter in Sikeston, MO.  John pastors Mt. Calvary MBC there, and gave me the chance to speak to the church.  I’m grateful to have an opportunity to talk about the mission work and preach for them.  I’m also grateful for this church’s recent support of us.

I’m planning on taking some more visits in the next month or so.  If you have been wanting someone to speak to your church, please let me know and we’ll try to work out a date for later in the spring.

Youth Rally

At the end of the month, nine of us went to the youth rally held at Central MBM at St. Jacob, IL.  We had a very enjoyable time of fellowship with our Christian brothers and sisters.

Before the program, Quentin asked if he could borrow my Bible.  Reluctantly (because I thought it might get lost!) I let him even though he wouldn’t tell me why he wanted it.  After the program he told me.  He said he felt burdened for this friend that he brought with him.  He and Malcolm sat on the end of the bench, Quentin shared a part of Revelation with him and briefly witnessed to him.  He told me that Malcolm said that church didn’t make sense until then.

The next morning Malcolm came to church.  I wish I could be writing about how Malcolm accepted Christ, but he didn’t.  He did look convicted during the service.  Hopefully, he and his family will be back this next Sunday.  Please pray for this young man and his family, and pray that we will follow the Lord’s leadership in simply sharing God’s word with others!

Sponsoring Church (Part 2)

In case you missed it last month, we  have a new sponsoring church.  First Baptist Church of Bryant, AR became our sponsoring church at the beginning of the year.  If you have questions about this change please don’t hesitate to contact Bro. Doug Burch (pastor of Grace) , Bro. Phillip Miller (pastor of FBC), or myself.

Also, please send offerings to First Baptist, as they will be helping with our finances.
